Birthday Girl
Whooohoo! It's my birthday today. For some reason I LOVE birthdays and every year is more exciting than the last. So far, so good. My hubby woke me up this morning, brought me into the kitchen and voila!

Aren't they beautiful? I was greeted by these lovely flowers, a pink birthday balloon (natch!) and a yummy chocolate cupcake with a little candy flower on top. We're heading out for a romantic dinner this evening and have a party this coming weekend with my friends in the South Bay.

To be honest, I've been celebrating my birthday all month. True. It started off with a massage and spa day with my friend Khanh, then this past weekend we went skiing in Tahoe (70 degrees on the slopes!) and next weekend I'll end my "birthday month" with another massage using a gift certificate a friend gave me for Spa Radiance. What more could a girl ask for?

I Call Her Ryann
Check out my new bike! This weekend my hubby, his parents and I were hiking around the Lands End trail and decided to walk through the streets to get back to the car instead of going back the way we came. I spotted a garage sale across the street and lo and behold, look at what I found! It's a pink beach cruiser (something I've been coveting since moving to California) and it was only $45!
Can you belive my good fortune? The bike gods were certainly smiling down upon me on Saturday afternoon. I was busy all evening on Saturday and again on Sunday so this morning was my first chance to take it for a spin. I rode all the way from my house to the Golden Gate Bridge (which is actually further than it seems) and back, past the Palace of Fine Arts and back through the little streets in my neighborhood. I was out and about for just over an hour. What a beautiful way to start a Monday. Here are some more shots that I took on my little adventure. (Sorry if you are getting tired of the bridge and sunrise shots - but it's so pretty and it proves to my hubby that I indeed got up and didn't crawl back into bed after he left for work!)

Cupcakes!
For those of you who know me well, you know I've been blabbing about how wonderful it would be to open my very own cupcake shop. I'd decorate it like a scene from Marie Antoinette, filled with shades of pink and a big crystal chandelier. In my dream, I had a little dog that would hang out with me all day and I'd sit around and meet fabulously interesting new people. What? It's a dream ok? So, it's not surprising to me that someone else had a similar dream and opened Kara's Cupcakes on Scott Street in the Marina. It's tiny but adorable, with pink plexiglass-like walls, incredible coffee and yummy flavors of darling little cupcakes.

Cupcakes are indeed the hot new trend right now, and why shouldn't they be? You can eat them in a couple of bites, they usually come in girly sweet colors and all it takes is seeing them to bring you back to childhood memories of birthday parties with your best girlfriends. For those of you who can't get enough, my friend just introduced me to a cupcake blog. All cupcakes, all the time.

New Year, New You!
I know, I know... I'm as sick of that phrase too but I really feel like I'm on the verge of a new me! My hubby started his new job yesterday and so did our new routine of waking up before the sunrise at 5am. I figured I may as well join him because (a) I won't be able to sleep through his morning rituals and (b) I'd like to be on the same schedule at night too. So... here I am, already up for over 2.5 hours and I've done the dishes, organized a few things, watched tv, ate breakfast and sipped a leisurely cup o joe... wow!

Here is a picture I took on a morning run yesterday at my favorite little patch of sand in the Marina overlooking my other favorite thing, the Golden Gate Bridge. Don't you just love the subtle shade of pink in the sky?

Since we're on the subject of new beginnings, I had the good fortune to attend TNNA last weekend in San Diego, a tradeshow for Knitting, Crocheting, Cross Stitch and Needlepoint and boy was I inspired. With all the little ones being born (seems monthly) out of my circle of friends, I desperately want to learn to make my gifts instead of buying them. So, I'm learning how to crochet! My dear friend at Belle Epoch taught me how to make this cute little flower on Friday which I intend on attaching to a crocheted clutch. Wish me luck!

Merry Christmas!
You know it's been too long since I've posted anything when my computer hasn't saved my login and password anymore and I have to go rummaging through my old folders to find it! For those of you who have been asking, "What have you been up to?", "Why haven't you updated your blog?", this one is for you. :-)

It's Christmas Day and my hubby and I are quietly enjoying our new gifties and relaxing before we pack and head to the airport to catch our flight to Fort Lauderdale! Sun, surf and sand here we come. The last time we checked it was 79 degrees but felt like 85 and it seemed to be mostly sunny. My best friend Erika and her hubby Mark will be joining us on Dec. 30 so we can celebrate New Years together. Yay!

Now, back to Christmas! Here is a picture of some of my loot, and YES that is a pink "Barbie" mixer you see nestled in the middle of all this great stuff. Beware, I'm going to be baking up a storm when I get back!

Have a wonderful day all!
Smooches....

Ballet Body... NOT!
I keep meaning to post a thing or two about the life of me but I forget! I think it's because I don't have a "comment" button and I can't dialogue with people on my posts. Perhaps I'll have to pay the extra and sign up for comments, I'm sure it'll make it more fun, non?

This is a picture of a beautiful little gocco print that I bought on the Wurst Gallery website. Isn't it cute? It's part tattoo-like, part girly goodness. OK. I bought it ages ago (like 6 months!) and I've been meaning to frame it but I've been lazy and haven't gotten around to it.

Here is another one from a Japanese artist that I think I might buy. My girlfriend turned me on to so many artsy crafty things including this print. It would go perfectly at my desk at work which I have turned into a pink haven. Surprised? Come to think of it, it would make lovely photos for my blog so I won't share too much and simply say... coming soon!

Now for my funny story of the day! I decided to go to the gym after work tonight (shocking, mais oui?) because I wanted to try out the new Ballet Body class they have. I arrived 5 minutes late so I slipped in the back and settled into the warm ups that they were doing on the floor. A few minutes later when the music started pumping (Fergie's London Bridge) and the instructor started gyrating, I knew I was in trouble. The Ballet Body class that I THOUGHT I was taking was actually a Strip Tease class and I must have been in the wrong studio! I was too embarrassed and intrigued to leave once we got started and I ended up having a blast. Ladies, if you're listening, striptease class at Crunch is where it's at! Just ignore the little chinese man that's wiggling his hips with the rest of them in the corner.

Romantic Rendezvous
Last weekend my sly hubby whisked me away after work to a romantic "luxury" campground along the California coast, called Costanoa.

It's the same place that I blogged about in a previous post but this time was so much more romantic as I had my love with me. We stayed in our own tent for two nights and spent the days reading, hiking and just hanging around.

This is how we started our morning on Saturday.

Coffee. Sun. Ocean views. Bliss.

We then decided to take a little hike down to the ocean. We waded through grass as tall as giants and were spit out on the other side on the sand.

We sat for hours and just stared out at the surf and watched the seals frolicking along the rocky shore.

I can't wait to go back.

Let Them Eat Cake
I left work early tonight to take in the latest Sopia Ford Coppola flick, Marie Antoinette. No sooner had I sat in my chair was I sucked into the world of Louis XVI. The film was like a full-length ooey gooey music video filled with pastels and bows, horses and castles, pastries and petticoats - it was absolutely divine. What it was lacking in substance, it made up for in frothy full calorie "cotton candy fluff". Some may think of fluff as a bad thing? Not this girl!

Sew Beautiful
My dear friend Belle Epoch is so darned crafty that she has gone and inspired me to get in touch with my Martha side. So... I enrolled myself in a Sewing 101 class at the Craft Gym where I made this darling pillow! A sewing machine, some friendly tips and a few peanut butter filled pretzels later and voila! A pillow made by me. I'd like to enroll in another class soon to build on my newly acquired skills and make a cute little toilettries bag - maybe these could be my Christmas gifts! All I need to do is convince one of our authors/crafters, Amy Butler to "donate" some fabric to my cause and I'll be good to go.

Manhattan Tomatoes
Aren't these little cherry tomatoes darling? My college roomie brought them all the way from her Manhattan balcony to share with me and my hubby.

Wicked Weekend
This weekend was one that I wished kept going forever. It started on Friday afternoon with the arrival of my college roommate. We went for dinner at my favorite neighborhood restaurant, Chez Maman where I had the most incredible ricotta-filled ravioli in a yummy gorgonzola cream sauce with pine nuts. Mmmmm....

Saturday morning my hubby was patient enough to bring me to Jeremy's to buy this gorgeous Rebecca Taylor dress! It was a steal and I absolutely love it.

We then stopped at my friends brother-in-law's art studio in the Lower Haight to see his latest work. He takes black and white photographs of couples, mostly nude but completely covered by stratigically placed arms etc. They're very beautiful.

Next stop? Napa! We stopped at Gloria Ferrera for a glass of champagne and then headed over to St.Supery to sample their famous Sauvignon Blanc - my new favorite! It tastes just like peaches and is so tasty.

Last but not least, we raced back to the city for my book launch party at the Rickshaw Stop. It was fantastic. About 100 people showed up, the authors were great and the band that ended the night had a famous drummer - Adrian Young from No Doubt!!

I also have a photo of Mr. Adrian in his birthday suit if anyone is brave enough to take a peek. Yikes!

Beautiful Butternut
Since moving to California (almost 6 years ago!) I've fallen more and more in love with the fall every year. The weather is gorgeous and knowing that I'm not headed for 5 months of life covered in snow, I can actually enjoy the cooler weather that begs for beautiful knitted sweaters. Everyone is so festive and doorways are decorated with pumpkins and the crafty bug is starting to call my name. I've got a little project in the works but I can't say anything as my blogging buddy Belle Epoch will ruin her surprise!

My hubby and I have started a little Sunday-night tradition where we cook a nice meal together. We cracked open my favorite cookbook which has a horrible name but I swear everything I've tried is exceptionally delicious and extremely simple. Yesterday's experiment did not disappoint. I made a yummy Butternut Squash soup and Ryan made a beautiful roast chicken with roasted veggies. It all turned out really well and my only complaint was that my soup recipe didn't make enough for leftovers! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed:

1 tbsp reduced fat butter
1/2 cup chopped onions (Trader Joe's sells pre-chopped onions in their veggie department - yeah!)
1 tsp curry powder
1 1/2 cups low-sodium, reduced-fat chicken broth
1/2 cup apple juice
4 cups peeled, cubed butternut squash (again, Trader Joe's!)
1 cup peeled, chopped pears
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup low-fat sour cream

Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Add onions and cook over medium heat until tender, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle curry powder over onions and cook 1 more minute.

Add borth, apple juice, squash, and pears. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until squash is tender.

Transfer soup to a blender or food processor. Pulse on and off until mixture is pureed. Return to pot. Add salt. (I also added a pinch of Nutmeg and another of cinnamon to give it a nice fall-ish flavor)

To serve, ladle soup into individual bowls and spoon a generous tablespoonful of sour cream in the center.

Back to the Future
Ok, I promoise that I'll start to post pictures that I actually took myself as it's much more fun to see what little ol' moi has been up to... but my co-workers came across this old People magazine from 2000 today and it was too juicy not to share! Just think, Tom Cruise had "Never Been Better" and he was bragging about his marriage to Nicole which quickly came crashing down when "sources" say that Nicole was "with child" and it wasn't his. Curious that now he is the blissful father of mop-top Suri. Mean, I know, but you MUST check out Baby Toupee.com The best part of it all was the reference to 90210 - oh how I do miss those days. Sigh... how quickly things change.

Date Night
After a long and leisurely weekend hanging out with friends (dinner at our place on Friday, dinner at an old co-workers' house on Saturday), some good house hunting (we're still just browsing, nothing serious yet!) and a romantic early dinner in Tiburon, we decided to go see a movie. I had heard a little bit about The Last Kiss starring Zach Braff and Rachel Bilson.

I loved Garden State and thought this one may be similar but boy was I wrong. What started out like a nice movie about relationships turned into a gutwrenching (and not in a good way) mess. I cried for 2/3 of the movie, not because I sympathized with the characters but out of sheer anger that people can be so thoughtless, cruel and careless with those that they love. I continued to cry all the way home and now I feel drained. PMS-ing? Maybe. A movie worth your $9.25? Not at all.

This is LA
It's 9:30 on Sunday morning and I'm sitting in the lobby of The Standard Hotel on Sunset Blvd. We drove down on Friday night to hang out with an old college friend and catch some rays in la-la-land. The weather is gorgeous (as usual) and I'm looking forward to the boys getting up so we can do some shopping on Melrose!

Yesterday we started our day with breakfast at Doughboys on 3rd Street which was incredible. As I was sitting eating my pancakes and side of breakfast potatoes, I noticed Sophia Bush, young Hollywood starlet waiting to be seated. She sat on the other side of the glass from us and I have to say, she's got a great makeup artist because she's not anything special in person (mean, I know - but geesh, she's famous!)

Next up, Malibu. The boys wanted to surf and I was looking forward to relaxing on the beach so we cruised down Sunset Blvd to the shore. When we arrived, two guys whizzed by us on their skateboards, one of which was Scott Caan, star of Oceans 11, Varsity Blues, Boiler Room, Into the Blue etc. He plopped himself on the sand next to us and we "hung out" beside him all afternoon. He chatted to me for a minute, asking how my day at the beach was and I looked over and my hubby was showering in the beach shower with a big grin. I thought he was excited because Mr. Caan was chatting up his wife but instead, it was because he was chatting and showering next to James Remar, better known as Samatha's boyfriend, Richard, on the Sex and the City! I wonder who we'll see today?

It's been too long!
Ok bloggy bloggerson's, I'm back. My dear friend Belle Epoch had called me out not once, but TWICE in the past few days so I fear that all those wonderful people who are actually engaged in what my talented friend has to say and display, are deeply saddned when they see that I haven't blogged in MONTHS!

So I've been extremely busy with my hubby whoopin' it up. We've had a very busy little summer with jaunts to Toronto, New York and Hawaii! Finally... we said, "Aloha!" and it was divine.

Diamond Head

On the day we arrived, we hiked up Diamond Head (the large mountain you see here) and took it all in. Down one side of the mountain (err... crater) you could see all of Honolulu. If you peered down the other side of the crater you saw Magnum PI's lighthouse.

Magnum PI Lighthouse

Look at the coral reef next to the shore! The water was incredible! I hiked, swam with sea turtles and tropical fish that looked more like lazerbeams than fish, surfed and sunned. It was an incredible vacation with the man of my dreams.

Hawaii Sandals

We also trekked out to the central valley with our Canadian Possee and went camping at New Malones Lake. I don't have my pictures uploaded yet but it was beautiful and we had a blast. The "matriarch" of our group rented a speed boat and we all went tubing which believe it or not, I'd never done. It was SO MUCH FUN! I was petrified of flying off so thankfully the boys were nice and I had a jolly good time out on the lake.

My sweetie and I are now busy packing because we're heading down to la-la-land to play on Sunset Blvd. Oh... what a tough life we lead.

Ta Ta for now!

- Rollercoasters
- Mangoes
- Peachy scents

I'm back!
Laptop My poor computer has been so patient, waiting for me to curl up on my couch and blog. It's been far far too long since I've visited and I think it may be because I'm terribly embarrassed that my skin is no longer glowing and heavenly. No. In fact, I think I may be allergic to something, I've broken out in bumps all over. Ick. Zits at 30, ah... divine. Regardless, I've been a very busy girl lately and I've been having a little too much fun if I do say so myself. My bestest friend in the whole wide world visited us this weekend with her hubby. I finally took advantage of those summer hours on Friday and left at noon (whooohoo!) and then headed over to the Grove on Chestnut for some lunch. The Grove We then wandered around the Marina and Cow Hollow, dipping into stores in the search for new treasures, much to my friends' husbands chagrin. Our shopping trip was a success though because I found a very darling little Max & Cleo black dress at Ambiance to wear to an upcoming wedding back in Toronto. Hooray! For dinner we headed over to Asia de Cuba at the Clift Hotel for a very civilized dinner with one of "SF's top waiters" Byron. He was fabulous and the food was divine. Highly recommended. My hubby and I have gotten it in our heads that we're going to buy a house in Marin. We're crazy, but I love it! So Saturday morning we decided to do a drive by and see if one of the houses we had been coveting was still on the marketplace... it wasn't. Next stop? Sonoma. Before we made it to our first winery, my friends hubby spotted some old World War II bi-planes parked along the highway and decided on the spot that he was up for a ride. Next thing we knew, Mark had signed himself up for the "Acrobatic Tour" which guaranteed to knock your socks off. Mark's Plane He did indeed do flips and turns (upside down!) just like a true soldier. His day was made. Erika and I were in the mood for some wine after that tug on the nerves so we motored on to Gloria Ferrer, Valley of the Moon and Kenwood. Mmmm..... The weekend was topped off with a brisk walk through Golden Gate Park in support of the AIDS Walk. Ryan and I raised $350 combined so we were quite pleased with ourselves. It was a gorgeous day and a perfect end to a perfect weekend. SF Aids Walk

Magic Cream
Beauty Tip Alert!
Last weekend I was hob-nobbing with a doctor of chinese medicine and celebrity guru in LA. It was fantastic. I asked the good doctor to assist me with my little bout of adult acne and he generously supplied me with some supplements, detoxifying tea and this magical cream. The Regenerating Creme available on his website is simply divine. Ok... it smells like Indian food (sadly, I'm not kidding) but somehow it adds to it's authenticity and charm. It's magic! My skin is glowing! It's screaming, "Hey! Look at me!" Highly recommended.

Sonoma Wedding
Hooray! Friday is finally here and we're heading up to Sonoma tomorrow morning for a wedding at Hans Fahden . It's going to be H-O-T up there and I've got my bikini tucked neatly into my overnight bag. I can't wait to laze about pre-wedding festivities and hopefully for a little bit on Sunday as well. Unfortunately my hubby is unofficially part of the wedding party (weird duties including opening the doors to the cave pre-dinner, ushering the grandparents etc.) but hopefully we can squeeze in some good ol' fashioned pool lounging.

Cheers!

SunDog
Isn't this cloud amazing? I had dinner with a friend last night and she was telling me about this phenomenon called a sundog. Apprently they are rather rare and it happens when ice crystals gather to form a cloud. While in Napa last spring, I happened across one of my very own! People thought I was crazy but I have proof!

It's a rainbow in a cloud!

6:25 p.m. - 2006-06-07
Meg
My very good friend has the cutest clothes and many of them come from a little Canadian designer named Meg. While I was in Toronto a few weeks ago, I visited the darling little store...

The dresses in the window twirled around and were like a miniature version of the Prada "exhibit" on display in their SoHo location. So fabulous!

Very Bad Things
I've been bad. Very bad. I have not written in weeks! I promise to update it soon but I'm too tired at the moment. We're getting up early to head down south to go camping. I hope to have lots of pics when I return.

Don't Call It Frisco
I'm heading to New York this week - yay - Big Apple here I come! Question: do New Yorkers hate calling NY, "The Big Apple" like San Franciscans hate "Frisco"?

I have a confession to make... I bought the Frederik Fekkai shampoo. :)

9:42 p.m. - 2006-05-11
Sparkly Seahorse
Now that I've started to tell people about my blog competition/experiment, I guess I'd better start to keep it fresh and exciting!

This evening I went to the CCA Graduate Exhibition with the girls. I was most fascinated and disturbed by a little stuffed wild cat whose fangs had been dolled up with diamond studs. The cat was rolled up and displayed in a glass box. Interesting. Many of the pieces reminded me of the project a fellow classmate in college did where he handed in a bathroom tile in an envelope with the note, "This is a piece of my life" and received an A.

Other pieces were very cool though and some highlights were a pile of army men and plastic grenades that were arranged on the floor in the shape of a giant flowering lilly pad and a few "paintings" that were made entirely out of sparkles by an artist named Jamie Vasta Very cool!

Today has been an arty day all around as it started out with making a purchase of a darling little tank that was featured in this months Domino magazine (yay girly shopping mags!)

And best of all, it's from a small little Canadian designer in Victoria named Smoking Lily.

10:33 p.m. - 2006-05-09
Work It Girl!
So I ended up snuggling with my kitty for a little while and as the sun began to set behind me and another re-run of America's Next Top Model threatened to lure me in, I decided to do it. Go for a run. Seriously.

My hubby is going to be so proud. Tonight is his night for practicing with his band so I was on my lonesome with nothing to do. I ran along the marina, watching the sun set behind the Golden Gate Bridge which was a beautiful sight. There are so many people out running, biking, walking and so many dogs. Next I ran over to the Palace of Fine Arts which is my favorite piece of architecture, probably in the world. The weird (but fascinating) firedancers who happened to appear in my hubby's latest music video were getting ready to start their practice so I continued to run on. My run ended on Chestnut Street which is a wonderful little street a few blocks from home with lots of quaint restaurants, shops and cafes. The new Squat & Gobble is FINALLY open and I can't wait to give it a try this weekend. Mmmm.... brunch! Next came a stop at the market where I picked up some fresh berries and white peaches, some window shopping, "Hello lady!" and a quick stop at Books Inc. to read some trash mags. As a reward for this very good behavior I made myself a little strawberry & peach snack and a spot 'o tea.

Snuggle with my kitty or go for a run... hmmm... which would you want to do?

Bachelorette's and Bridals
I'm usually not very good at competitions, my heart starts racing, my face gets flushed, I get all flustered... but I ROCK at this blog competition with my hubby. He has yet to put something really exciting on his blog so I think I'm in the lead. I had a wonderfully relaxing weekend with a group of girls, celebrating the upcoming marriage of my hubby's band leader and his girlfriend. While the boys were playing in LA, the girls headed south to Costanoa We checked into our luxury tent (well to be honest, it was more like a glorified tool shed but we have to pretend it was faboo). I shared with my friend Stephanie who has sadly moved to Modesto to raise her darling little boy Jack Jr. close to her family. Once we got ourselves situated, we all piled into the car for a little wine tasting at Bonny Doon winery, just north of Santa Cruz. It was a beautiful little spot and they gave us A LOT of free wine. The best part was the spectacular illustrations on the bottles. These were two of my favorites: We went out to dinner at Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero and had an exciting evening with more wine and a chocolate cake in the shape of a man's naughty part! Today was much more serene and I was able to escape the group to take some time for myself. I booked a private ride along the mountain ridge of Aņo Nuevo State Park. The ride took us through some lush forests as well as grassy floral fields. The views over the ocean were absolutely incredible.

Just Peachy
My dear blogging mentor reminded me that I hadn't wrote in a little while and as any good blogger knows, you gotta keep writing!

A couple of weeks ago my "friends" at Sephora were kind enough to give me a few sample packets of shampoo and conditioner from Frederik Fekkai. I usually hate those little packets but the pretty pink packaging and nearly empty bottle of Kerastasse beckoned me to give it a try. Heaven in a packet. The smell. Peaches! The texture. So creamy! I must have it. I must. Who in their right mind pays $40 for shampoo and conditioner (and small bottles at that!) but what else could transform my little shower into a luxurious retreat? They're simply little pink bottles of peachy goodness. Sephora, here I come!

11:38 p.m. - 2006-04-29
A Day in the Life of Me
My hubby and I had a very busy San Francisco day. First stop: a breakfast to celebrate the launch of The San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers Market Cookbook (boy, that's a mouthful!).

Nex stop: AT&T Park for a game between the SF Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After the game we had a lazy afternoon trolling through North Beach, stopping for some yummy eats at Naan & Curry, then a cafe mocha at a darling little cafe I can't remember the name of.

All in all, a perfect day.

My sweetie even bought me some roses which I so elegantly arranged (if I do say so myself!)

And last, but not least... a yummy pink concoction from Cocktails by Jenn.

3:42 p.m. - 2006-04-28
Spring is in the air
In addition to toast, I also love everything pink. Check out my new pink spring bag, made by my friend Nancy. So fun!

My Toaster

This is my toaster. It makes me happy.
My favorite snack is toast with creamy peanut butter and a little cup of coffee. Yum! p.s. my blog is way cuter than my husband's-- see?

A Blog is Born
My sweetie and I have decided to have dueling blogs so here goes... We live in the Bay Area so there is no excuse to not "get with the 90s" and I often fantasize about wasting the day away in a cute little cafe with my laptop perched on my lap - now maybe I will.

Toast and candy are two of my favorite things and hopefully this will be a place for me to store images of more favorite things.

Let the games begin!
